Age of Aquarius

Updated: Nov 1

Being the Soul and not just the Body

In our study of the cycles of nature we eventually learned about ‘The Ages’: lengthy periods, approx. ~2,160 years each, determined by the Earth's axial precession and categorized by its movement (in reverse) through one of the twelve zodiac signs. Each age is characterized by distinct themes and societal shifts that align with the attributes of the zodiac sign. For example, the Age of Pisces, which we've been in for the last two millennia, emphasized spirituality, religion, and the influence of major belief systems. We read directly from Alice Bailey:

“The astronomers tell us that, when Christ was born in Palestine, the date from which our Christian dispensation starts, the sun passed into the sign Pisces: the Fishes. We have, therefore, the emphasis laid in the Gospel Story upon the fish symbology. Christ chose fishermen to be among His disciples; He performed miracles with fishes: He sent his disciples out into the world to be fishers of men: for nearly two thousand years it has been customary to eat fish on Good Friday and on fast days.”

As we move from the Age of Pisces into the Age of Aquarius, these themes slowly transition into this new era's emphasis on innovation, humanitarianism, and technological advancement.

The influence of Astrological Energy upon our lives

We began ÓS with healthy skepticism and yet -through firsthand experience- we’ve found that  the influence from the cycles of nature upon us and the world around us is undeniable. One example is found in this Article: The Full moon’s influence on Nature (us). The idea that the Moon, The Seasons, and the Stars are worth tracking are as old as civilization. Since recorded history, people have lived in alignment with the cycles of nature. Early astronomers from across the globe mapped the sky and identified patterns that helped their communities develop. Now as we learn about The Age of Aquarius, we feel there is an opportunity to rise in consciousness and create the change we feel so many people are desiring. This hope is influenced by the key aspects of Aquarius, its archetype, and its lessons. We explore this further in our ÓS Guidebook.

Aquarius, The Water Bearer: A Deeper Look

As an archetype, Aquarius originates in Babylonian mythology as the god Ea (GU.LA, “The Great One'' constellation) who is commonly depicted as holding an overflowing vase. In Greek mythology, Ganymede represents the constellation of Aquarius, the server or cup bearer. Aquarius has expanded over time in its symbology and influence with themes like:

  • innovation

  • illumination

  • communication

  • technology

  • humanitarianism (global unity)

Here we explore all the notes we have taken for Aquarius; its archetypes and symbology.

The Rider-Waite’s Tarot Cards, “Temperance '' and “The Star'' represent the symbolism of Aquarius:

Temperance depicts an angelic being “with the sun upon her forehead. She carries two urns, one empty and the other full, and continually pours the contents of the upper into the lower.”

The Star depicts a woman who also stands on both water and land, pouring the waters of life back onto nature with 8 stars above her head. The symbology above has informed us with an image of the restoration of nature, the rising sun, and our roles in this new age.

We are the water bearers

The myth, symbology, and teachings are here to guide us.

We have learned from so many great teachers how the history of astrology and astronomy is tied with the history of man and consciousness. We quote Jung who wrote much about The Age of Aquarius specifically and we find it interesting to hear his passion for the subject as a respected psychiatrist of his time. Jung got the epithet “father of the New Age” for his idea of how the “collective psyche” of the human race changes with the “end of one Platonic month and at the beginning of another.” He felt obligated, as a medical doctor, to alert people to the nature of our time–how we are living through a major cosmic transformation as the age of Pisces gives way to the age of Aquarius:

“It is not presumption that drives me, but my conscience as a psychiatrist that bids me fulfill my duty and prepare those few who will hear me for coming events which are in accord with the end of an era. As we know from ancient Egyptian history, they are manifestations of psychic changes which always appear at the end of one Platonic month and at the beginning of another. Apparently they are changes in the constellation of psychic dominants, of the archetypes, or “gods” as they used to be called, which bring about, or accompany, long-lasting transformations of the collective psyche. This transformation started in the historical era and left its traces first in the passing of the eon of Taurus into that of Aries, and then of Aries into Pisces, whose beginning coincides with the rise of Christianity. We are now nearing that great change which may be expected when the spring point enters Aquarius."

A favorite source for us is also Alice Bailey’s “The Twelve Labors of Hercules”. Where she shares how The Zodiac signs are here to help us individually and collectively in our spiritual ascension. She identified this new age of Aquarius with the initiative (us) who are endeavoring like Hercules to overcome challenges on our path. She listed the hallmarks of the initiated as unselfish, and collaborative; willing to take action for others. She advises us to:

  • Seek higher aspirations for the benefit of the world. “From Sheep to Goat. From follower to that of an independent seeker.”

  • Do our part to help ourselves and then others. "Bring down the water from the top of the mountain for others."

  • Purify ourselves of hatred and separation “Hatred and separation will die out, and the cosmic picture will come into view.” -AB

We wrote this to share some sources we have enjoyed and advocate your own questioning and curiosity. We truly feel this new age offers us the opportunity to break away from traditional structures and move toward a collective consciousness, where freedom, equality, and unity become paramount.

Creating change through the Internet

What do we see happening today? The advancement of technology brings us a more interconnected world. The exposure of new information is shaking previously held beliefs. Yet this is all a double edged sword and all advancements hold their shadow. The public disillusionment with the way civilization is running connects with the themes of Aquarius; its lessons in disrupting established norms. Aquarius though emphasizes us to create innovative solutions. There is a hunger for more community-oriented living and collaborative workspaces, decentralized systems and a revaluing of collective well-being over individual gain. The social movements occurring now advocating for equality, environmental regeneration, and human rights reflect the humanitarian and progressive values that can guide us into the future. Aquarius teaches us the breaking down of barriers to develop the consciousness of the whole. “We are entering the age of energy, the age of love.” -Alice Bailey We are living in exciting times! Con Amor, Bryan y Marcelo
