One of our favorite lessons comes from the origin of the word Virgin. Once a word used to describe a woman who was independent, untied, autonomous. Its current association disconnects it from a deeper wisdom. The Virgin as an archetype is someone who says no to what is not for them; so that they can say yes to the right thing. This teaches us to have discernment in our decisions, to think before we act, and to listen to our intuition. What should I be saying no to?
♍︎ Virgo The Constellation, Archetype, and Wisdom

Sixth sign of the Zodiac. | 6
This archetype of the Mother, The Virgin, and the Maiden all speak to Virgos connection with Feminine Wisdom. Virgo is connected to the planet Mercury ☿ and The Moon ☾ linking it to both communication and Internal listening.
For many peoples from across the northern hemisphere this time of year marked the coming of the hard winter months. This prompted the harvesting of crops and urgent preparation.
Yet acting without thinking is what causes mistakes. We are taught to slow down and process and analyze our path ahead.
This middle point in the year is a great time to be with ourselves to think. Listening to our inner voice before taking action.
The Mother within

The symbolism of Virgo originates in ancient Babylon (c. 3000 BCE), the constellation was linked to the deity of grain and harvest as the star grouping looked like an ear of wheat.
In Ancient Egypt; Virgo was linked to the goddess Isis, who was seen as the embodiment of fertility, motherhood, and the nurturer of life. Isis represents key embodied lessons such as resilience, maternal protection, and the balance of power and service.
The Greeks (c. 800 BCE) connected Virgo with Demeter, the goddess of the harvest, and Persephone, her daughter. This myth symbolized the seasonal cycle of growth and dormancy, with Virgo representing the time of harvest and abundance.
In Roman mythology (c. 300 BCE - 400 CE) , Virgo became associated with Ceres, the patron of the mysteries. This teacher of philosophical thought, like the Hierophant who holds the fire or the light of consciousness, veiled in robes, share the meaning of the divine feminine's role as the pillar of knowledge.
During this period Virgo’s representation of purity, modesty, and service began to solidify.

In Christianity, the birth of Jesus to a virgin in Bethlehem is symbolically connected to Virgo. In Christian countries this archetype became the Virgin Mary and La Virgen de Guadalupe.
In medieval and Renaissance astrology (5th–17th Century CE), Virgo became firmly established as one of the twelve zodiac signs, ruled by Mercury, it emphasizes intellect, communication, and organization.
Approaching relationships from pure desire.
This is our healing era.
The tarot offers us further insight:

The High Priestess depicts the teacher sits before a veil of pomegranates, symbolizing hidden wisdom. She wears blue and white robes for purity and insight, and a triple moon crown, linking her to the divine feminine. A crescent moon at her feet represents intuition and cycles. She holds a partially hidden Torah scroll, signifying hidden knowledge. The card then embodies mystery, inner knowing, and the subconscious.
Virgo emerges then as the symbol of the teacher and of beginning our spiritual journey.
This is the symbol of wisdom that is passed onto others.
through the school or university of life we learn how to focus on the right thing -directing our pure energy, focusing on organizing and filtering things out. The purification of our desire is how we begin to purify ourselves.
This is the zooming in; analyzing and learning to understand better our processes. We are reminded that we have work to do.
The lesson of being prepared
This entering into the fall reminds us to hold sacred creation and to live by our highest ideals.
