The Origin of Órbita Semanal
This revitalized system dates back to ♀March 11, 2022. While planning our week ahead, we (Marcelo and Bryan) asked each other how we could better continue the momentum of our ideas. Writing out possible solutions, a question arose: “Where do the names of the days of the week come from?”
We laughed at never having been taught this. We then learned how the names are derived from their association to the classical planets; The Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn.
In English the names come from Norse mythology but in Latin the planetary associations remain.
(Thursday = Thor's-day) ⚡️
We studied the origin of the 7-day cycle and the development of our modern calendars.
(Such as the Gregorian calendar we use today).
When people began to study the lunar phases, follow the seasons, and observe and record the stars, they were rewarded with guidance on managing their lives and their crops. Calendars allowed more people than ever to come together through a shared culture. The 7-day week (1/4 of the ~28-day Moon cycle) established by the Sumerians came into common use and all subsequent empires used this unifying calendar system. These systems imbued with stories and myths also helped bring spirituality and personal well-being to the collective; as the cycles of nature teach the need for rest, renewal, and aligned action. However, the systems have changed over the past thousands of years and are no longer aligned with nature.
We created Órbita Semanal to revitalize our modern systems.
Through ÓS we implement the knowledge of the days, the lunar cycles, the myths of the stars, and the seasons into our lives. We have developed a journaling practice in ÓS that helps us make better decisions, learn in new and innovative ways, and stay aligned through each season of life.
Journaling in alignment with the week, month and years has confirmed us that this writing practice is the best way to self-direct our time and energy–towards the development of our ways of thinking.
This creative practice of mindful observation, which began with our curiosity, is now our path to wisdom.
Thanks to ÓS, our days have connected us more deeply with our intuition, we have had a greater ability to cultivate our ideas, and thus, we've been able to better express ourselves. ÓS encourages clarity and right action.
The story continues daily. Thanks for joining us on the journey :)
